‘Elementary’ season 5, episode 6 preview: Killer cuisine and Fiona’s return

Elementary -When you consider everything that has been going on as of late when it comes to “Elementary,” in between the 100th episode and the arrival of Nelsan Ellis as Shinwell Johnson, it makes some sense that there will be a few stories that get a little lost in the shuffle here and there. This is happening specifically when it comes to Sherlock’s love interest Fiona.

Now, there is a part of seeing Fiona on the show that is linked, at least to a certain extent, to circumstance. Just remember for a minute here that Betty Gilpin is not a series regular, and therefore there is presumably only so much that you are going to end up seeing her on the show. With that said, we also wonder how much we will be seeing her moving forward based on some of the preliminary details we have regarding next week’s episode “Ill Tidings.”

Synopsis – “Holmes and Watson investigate a mass murder when a chef and his patrons are poisoned after dining on a tasting menu tainted with snake venom. Also, Detective Bell’s crush on a work colleague makes Holmes realize his and Fiona’s (Betty Gilpin) relationship is at an important crossroads.”

There are some occasions in which we read these synopses and bemoan how we think that the story-of-the-week pales in comparison to some of the other fun stuff we could be seeing in some episodes moving forward. This is one occasion in which we definitely don’t think this will be the case. The mass murder over the tasting menu sounds fascinating, and also particularly heinous given that whoever is responsible for this clearly had no problem allowing a number of people to die. Also, isn’t it interesting to see Detective Bell develop some feelings? It’s nice that the writers have come up with a suitable way to bring Sherlock to questioning his own relationship without having it feel forced.
