‘The X Factor’ UK video: James Hughes tries to impress with ‘Proud Mary’

X Factor -If there’s one frustration that we have with the Boys category in general on “The X Factor,” it’s that for the most part we tend to get the same thing week in and week out: The super-humble dude with a guitar with a signature hairdo and a desire to wink to every woman watching the show. Typically, they’ve also got either a guitar or the ability to play one.

This is where we like James Hughes, who performs Tina Turner’s “Proud Mary” of all things in the sneak peek below from this weekend’s Six-Chair Challenge. This guy is a true original through and through. We’ve never seen anyone on the show quite like him, and there is a boatload of excitement that comes with that. It’s so rare to see someone who has this much of a command of the stage, and is so unique with everything that they do.

James gets Nicole Scherzinger on his side, which is great since she’s got the Boys category this year. He also works the room really well and has a pretty good, distinctive voice to go along with it. He may ham it up a little too much at the end, but you can reign a little of that in. The most important thing here to us is that James is someone who wants to be a real pop star, and seems to genuinely love entertaining an audience.
