Emmys 2016: Garry Shandling handed moving, funny In Memoriam tribute

Emmys -While many awards shows do tend to have a lengthy In Memoriam segment, what the Emmys has done from time to time that is a little different is hand down some tributes to various stars over the course of the night.

During the first hour, the show put some energy to airing a highlight reel of some of the greatest moments from comedy icon Garry Shandling, one of the few people brilliant enough to have two hit shows spanning different decades. It’s incredibly difficult to have just one show make it on the air and be successful. To have two, meanwhile, is a feat very few people ever manage to achieve.

One of the moments that the show specifically included was an Emmy speech, which gives you a further look at the close impact between him and this particular awards show. There is also a reason that so many late-night comics specifically celebrated his work after his death: They had immense respect for what he was able to do, and even the life that he had. He set out to do precisely what he wanted to in this business, and once he was done, he chose to have a little more of a quiet life.

We’re happy in the end that the Emmys chose to gave him a lengthier spotlight; sure, there will be quibbles that other stars deserve a similar tribute, but for younger viewers tonight, it was worthy to have a package that fully illustrates the sort of impact that his work had.
