‘Criminal Minds’ season 12 spoilers: Powerful story ahead for AJ Cook’s JJ

While there is going to be a lot of talk in the early going of “Criminal Minds” about the departure of Thomas Gibson and also the arrival of Adam Rodriguez, we’re getting a clear sense that the show’s producers do not want to see some other characters lost somewhat in the shuffle.

With this in mind, we come now bearing some details about “Sick Day,” the upcoming October 5 episode that is the second of the season. Yes, we do realize that this may be the last episode to feature Gibson as Hotch and this is a big deal, but at the same exact time, it appears as though this episode could be a tremendous showcase for AJ Cook. For more on that, you don’t have to look any further than the attached synopsis:

“When JJ arrives home shaken after a rough case, she breaks down and tells her husband about the abduction of two children.”

Our hope when it comes to this episode is that we’re going to be poised to get an emotional story that surprises on many fronts. We know that there is a whole lot more going on here than what the synopsis is letting on, but at the same time we’re more than fine with there being a significant mystery lingering for at least the time being since we know we’re going to be getting some meaty stuff for one of our core cast members.

As for the future of Hotch, we’re sure there will be sort of of big opportunity to talk about further by the time we get around to this episode coming on the air.
