‘Chicago PD’ season 4, episode 1 review: Voight faces Crowley, Halstead asks Lindsay to move in
Voight has been a cop that has never really done things by the books, but on the season finale of “Chicago PD” he went from a cop that crossed the line to get the job done to a straight our murderer. It’s true that the man he killed, murdered his son Justin, but at the same time he is a cop and has just committed a serious crime. Not only that, but Lindsay knows about it and is conflicted about the whole situation. Is this crime going to be the end of Voight at the Chicago police department?
How is Lindsay dealing with this? Crowley talks to her about the fact that while the rest of the team was sent to another location, she and Voight were clear across town. Then Crowley asks her if she is “fine with what he did” and Lindsay denies that she knows what she’s talking about. Clearly the Crowley knows what’s happening – at least to some degree. Lindsay is having a hard time keeping it together and Voight lurking around every corner giving her a creepy version of the 3rd degree isn’t helping her at all. She decides not to tell him about Crowley’s talk, but he’s going to find out soon enough since she’s trying to get a hold of Voight too.
Lindsay confides in Halstead about what she knows and Crowley speaking to her, and he warns her not to go down with Voight. It’s weird timing, but Halstead thinks this is the right moment to ask her to move in with him and although she doesn’t say yes, we feel like the kiss sealed the deal.
When Crowley finally finds Voight she brings him to the scene of the crime where Justin’s killer is buried – taking away his badge and gun. She tells him that she will cut him a deal if he saves her the trouble of digging up the body. He denies everything and after they spend all day digging for the body and find nothing, they give Voight back his gun and badge. Where did this body go? Voight heads to Lindsay’s apartment and even though few words are spoken between them, it’s clear that she moved the body for him.
Burgess is getting a new partner now that Roman is gone, and her name is Julie. She learns that Julie was previously stationed in one of the worst jobs that no officer wants, so she’s curious to know how she got saddled with that job. Julie tells her that she she ended up there because her commander at the time, a man named Fogel, tried to kiss her and after she denied his advances he sunk her to the worst job on the planet. She finally got out from under that rock with the help of a higher up and was reassigned to work with Burgess. We couldn’t be happier about this match up – Julie was a bad ass jumping on that moving car.
This was a powerful premiere for “Chicago PD”, but as we have seen in the past, this is a show that isn’t afraid to push the envelope. We are fully invested in these characters and want to see them make the right decisions, so watching Lindsay struggle with doing what she thinks is right was intense. She may not want to go down for Voight, but her loyalty to him is undying. If all of season 4 of “Chicago PD” has the same tone and power as this premiere then we are in for an amazing season.
