‘Mistresses’ season 5: Renewal hopes and much more for ABC drama

Tonight, “Mistresses” is coming to an end for the season with an episode that could feature a long-lost child for Harry, a significant time jump, and more regarding what happened to Karen after the incident on Monday night’s new episode.

One thing that it apparently will not feature? Alyssa Milano, as she denied talk that she would be coming back on social media.

In looking beyond the season 4 finale into a potential fifth season of the show, the jury is still out regarding whether or not that could actually happen. The ratings for this summer certainly have not been great. The show is averaging at present a pretty woeful 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic, and this is in spite of it airing behind “The Bachelorette” and “Bachelor in Paradise” most of the season. Are there are a few caveats here and there with this? We suppose so, whether they be some odd scheduling quirks (such as the show airing on July 4) or having to air two episodes on some weeks to make up for a hiatus brought on by some Presidential debates.

Still, in the end ratings are ratings, and with the series jumping forward in time it’s pretty possible we’ll get an ending tonight that will be satisfactory in the end that it marks the end of the series. We hope that this is not a “Devious Maids” situation; that show decided on giving us both a time jump and a cliffhanger, and thanks to Lifetime’s decision to cancel it, we are forever left to sit around and wonder precisely how the series could end.
