TV Friendships: What ‘The Walking Dead’ season 7 can do with Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon

Rick and Daryl -

We gotta be honest: Rick Grimes and Daryl Dixon may be one of our favorite bromances on TV. The “Walking Dead” duo do not always have a ton of screen time together, but they make the most of whatever they do. They disagree at times, joke at others, and are the two anchors of much of the show’s action. What we also like about their friendship in the scope of this particular world is that we’re not sure they would have ever been located on the same side of the law if they were both around each other in the real world.

So where do we see this dynamic going as we get into the whopping seventh season of the show? That’s something we’re looking to break down within the latest chapter of our daily TV Friendships article series.

Where they left off – At the end of season 6, basically Rick and Daryl were in the same position as many other characters: In severe danger of death by Negan. There wasn’t necessarily anything that stood out as special within this particular moment through the lens of their bond, mostly because they A) each in turn have many other bonds and B) were far too worried about their own lives. This moment came following many battles with the Saviors, when they were able to pool ideas and resources to get the best possible solution.

Where they could go from here – First of all, let’s go ahead and presume that the two of them do survive because we have a heck of a hard time imagining them being the one to go early on the premiere. From here, we want to see a lot of them working together since they’ll have plenty of motivation to. For one, they will more than likely have a desire to avenge the death of whoever just fell in the premiere. They have a common enemy in Negan, and of course there are other loose threads out there in Carol and Morgan. We know that they’re going to connect on a strategic level, given that both need to in order to survive in this world. What we also want to see is the two of them try to also connect on an emotional level. That’s not something Daryl does a lot of, but it’s season 7. Now’s the time where he should realize that it really is okay to have friends.
