‘Chicago Fire’ season 5 spoilers: Be prepared for ‘Chicago PD’ crossover romance

Crossover romances are at this point relatively common within the One Chicago universe. It started with Lindsay on “Chicago PD” and Severide on “Chicago Fire,” and since that time we’ve seen Platt and Mouch from the two different shows also make it down the aisle.

So who is next for the two shows? How about Brett and Antonio! It seems like a little bit of a surprising pairing, but as executive producer Matt Olmstead tells Entertainment Weekly, the element of surprise is one of the reasons why it works so well:

“It started to gain some traction because of the actors … There’s plenty to play in terms of the May-December version of Brett to Antonio — his character has a couple kids, he’s divorced, no way should he be with this woman, but she’s had her heart broken. She’s looking for a real man, he qualifies. He’s looking for a real soul, a real heart, and she qualifies.”

Olmstead added that these romances are hard sometimes to work out because of scheduling, but they have figured out a way for it to be effective in whatever time that they have. Given that the two shows are always in some sort of synergy, we figure that there’ll be plenty of time for these parties to see one another.
