‘Chicago Fire’ season 5 spoilers: ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ actor signs on as social-media star

Given how timeless the various “Chicago” shows feel, it’s almost jarring that we are getting a social-media star as a character on “Chicago Fire” this coming season. Yet, that seems to be precisely what is coming up.

According to TVLine, recently “Grey’s Anatomy” actor Scott Elrod is going to be appearing on the fifth season of the series as a “lifestyle celebrity” who goes by the name of Travis Brenner. What’s his job? Apparently, it is something along the lines of using Instagram as his platform to do a variety of different things. The difficulty that we have in explaining this is probably a further reflection in the end to precisely how little we know about social-media stars in general and what it is that they do.

Ultimately, this character could end up forging a bond with Severide after the two end up spending some time together, and it’d certainly be interesting to see how a guy like Kelly fits in with this crowd. This character could expose us more to the socialite scene in Chicago, which is largely interesting in that this is not something that we have seen there be a whole lot of focus on just yet across the entire franchise.

In the end, we’re happy to see Elrod on board, just as we are also happy to have some further casting news that is not just about a crossover of some variety. We do enjoy those, but sometimes, it is nice to keep the focus firmly on 51 and some of the stuff happening there.
