‘Doctor Who’ season 10 spoilers: Peter Capaldi, Pearl Mackie head to Spain

Doctor Who -This year “Doctor Who” was a little bit missing-in-action when it comes to San Diego Comic-Con, but there is a reason for that: The cast is currently filming season 10! Not only that, but filming this time around seems to be even more of a global affair than usual.

The photo below was posted on the show’s official Twitter account, and it features star Peter Capaldi alongside Pearl Mackie, who is currently at work on her first season of the show as the character Bill. The big surprise here is that the two are in Valencia, Spain, as opposed to the traditional set in Cardiff, Wales. Hopefully the willingness to go on-location and shoot things silences some of the naysayers who were complaining about the lower ratings for last season; clearly, the show is still doing just fine.

This is going to be the second episode of the new season, which at present has no firm premiere date other than “some point in 2017.” There will be a Christmas Special later this year to help serve as a bridge between the series’ past and present, but Mackie is not expected to be making an appearance in that. That will just be a way to help keep a holiday tradition going while you wait around to see what is next.

Of course, our biggest hope more so than anything else is that the new season continues to come up with new, innovative methods of storytelling. This is what has led “Doctor Who” to stand out in a field of crowded shows over the years, and we want to see that imaginative quality remain with it in showrunner Steven Moffat’s final year.
