‘Game of Thrones’ season 6 finale debate: Will wildfire return, and will Cersei use it?

LogoGiven that the “Game of Thrones” finale on Sunday night is going to run for almost an hour and ten minutes, there is a lot that HBO can cram in there. With that in mind, we would not be shocked if almost every story from this season, even lesser ones like Sam and Dorne, manage to find their way into the narrative somehow.

Of course, nobody out there is talking about Dorne with the sort of fevered anticipation that they are another storyline in King’s Landing, given that everyone knows what could happen here. Promos have already highlighted the potential for seeing Cersei Lannister and Loras Tyrell’s trials finally come to fruition, and we also know that Lena Headey’s character has been researching something that exists within the city walls.

What could it be? Wildfire is the obvious guess, given what the Mad King may have had stored there also also seeing how desperate a state she may now be in. Even with her walk of atonement, the lack of “shame” she may feel in the High Sparrow’s eyes could at this point lead to her receiving horrible consequences. She could be furious at the faith, furious at the city, and desperate without Jaime off in Riverrun. The circumstances are in place for her to do something drastic, especially if something were to happen to King Tommen.

We do have to say that we are not optimistic about the King getting out of this finale alive, mostly because he’s far too kind to fend for himself, and he’s such an easy mark if someone gets to him. As for who could kill them, maybe the High Sparrow turns, Cersei does so by accident, or her actions lead to him being collateral damage. If we were to name other potential suspects of death in King’s Landing, we would say that the Sparrow is #2 and The Mountain is #3. Cersei herself is #4, mostly because if she goes out with wildfire, we cannot imagine a more epic send-off to one of the series’ best characters.
