‘MasterChef’ season 7, episode 3 review: The saga of Bill
We admit that for much of the first two episodes of “MasterChef” season 7, we had no real idea who anyone was. We were just starting to get to know some of the home cooks, and as a result of that, the show was infinitely better. We’ll take this Mystery Box / Elimination Challenge episodes over the ones where they go out in the field and cook something boring any day of the week.
There were two eliminations that took place tonight, and even the show couldn’t really even be bothered to properly give Cassie a send-off other than her saying that she will value the experience. We barely saw her prior to this beyond a confessional saying that she never is told her food isn’t good. She left via a potato challenge with Wolfgang Puck, who was tough on some of the home cooks, as a guest judge.
Now, let’s just move on to Bill. The show’s oldest contestant seems to be a really nice guy, but we’re not entirely sure he has the focus or the speed for this season. He made basically a potato dish in round one that we can make (and we’re not that great of a cook), and in the Elimination Challenge he didn’t get a good percentage of the ingredients.
The top two on the night were Terry (with his gigantic, anti-Trump-like hands) and Nathan, who started the night in the bottom with the Mystery Box. Meanwhile, Bill and D’Andre (who has cool shoes and we know almost nothing else about him) were in the bottom for the Elimination Challenge. Unfortunately, we must say farewell to Bill and his entertainment gold after just one episode in the top 20.
While we’re not going to pretend that Wednesday’s episode was the best ever, at least it was entertaining … and while Bill exited, he at least had a one-episode story arc for the ages. Who’s going to carry the confessional load now? Episode Grade: B+.
