‘Chicago PD’ season 4: Should Lindsay and Halstead take the next step?
Mrs. Carter: Is there such a thing as romantic consistency in the “Chicago PD” world?
If there is one thing that we’ve learned from watching this entire franchise executive-produced by Dick Wolf, it is that some of these characters don’t have a tendency of staying together for long. Even Dawson and Casey, in many ways the signature couple of the entire franchise on “Chicago Fire,” have broken up and found their way back together many times. They’ve even been going through quite a bit recently thanks to both his politics and her decision to foster a child.
Now, let’s get back to Lindsay and Halstead. Thanks to this past season, they may be one of the most consistent couples in the entire franchise. Can they keep this going, or even take another step, on the upcoming season? If there is one sign pointing towards good things, including them taking another step, it is that they have to realize at this point that they are a nice calming presence in one another’s lives. Halstead keeps Lindsay from battling her demons as much, while she is a positive influence on him to continue fighting to be the best.
Unfortunately, here’s what we are worried about: In many ways, Voight was a father figure to Lindsay, and after witnessing him about to kill someone he believed responsible for his son Justin’s death, that may change her perception in many ways. Will this sort of emotional devastation cause her to have less to believe in? It’s not exactly like she was blind to some of Voight’s vigilante tendencies, but it was easy to think that he was drifting away from them.
We do expect Voight’s actions to take a toll on Lindsay and Halstead — but given that they are just as interesting, if not more so, together than apart, we feel confident that they can pull through and maybe take the next step in season 4.

We already know the plan is for them to take “baby steps” in Season 4 per Matt Olmstead. He said that they would be the “sun breaking through the clouds” as opposed to the darkness around Voight which means they’ll be “kicking the tires” and “moving in together”. That’s not to say that they won’t have drama, after all it is what writers like to do so I would except a lot of ups and downs with the two of them down the road. Would be nice if they actually let them stay together and work out the differences that all couples have to work through, support each and be the badass partners they’ve always been.
