Ratings: ‘Castle’ series finale ties ‘Blindspot’; ‘Jane the Virgin,’ ‘Mike & Molly’ finales rise

There were a variety of finales that aired on Monday night, and of course ending a season is going to, more often than not, produce a nice little bump in the ratings.

For the “Castle” series finale, it was at least enough to set a new season high with a 1.3 rating; also, it was enough to tie “Blindspot” for #1 on the night in the timeslot. Sure, that’s not an enormous rating by any means, but it’s at least nice that the show did not go out with much of a whimper.

Other good news – The finale for “Jane the Virgin” bounced back up to a 0.4 rating, where it has hovered around for most of the season. It must be frustrating in some ways that the show doesn’t get a bigger number than this, but at the same time it is remarkably consistent. It must at least be somewhat refreshing to know that your show will stick around at a level that will be conducive to not getting it canceled.

Unfortunately, “Mike & Molly” is now over at CBS, but at least it did go out with a 1.6 rating that is fairly solid. For those wondering why this show is ending right now, the easy answer is mostly that it’s cheaper to produce new comedies than one that has been around for a while. Lo and behold, the reason why “The Odd Couple” has been renewed while the other officially wrapped production months ago.

The bad news – The majority of shows that were on the air were at least reasonably steady, at least with one big exception in “Person of Interest,” which continues to slide in its final season and is now at a 0.9. The show’s wonky scheduling is certainly hurting it here; in many ways, it is CBS justifying their own decision.
