‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12, episode 22: Kevin McKidd connects ‘Mama Tried’ to finale

Owen

Thursday night’s new episode of “Grey’s Anatomy” is coming up in a mere matter of hours, and over the course of this installment, we’re going to see play out one of the most emotional stories that we’ve seen on the series to date. After all, we don’t know how else you can really describe something that will force Callie and Arizona to battle in court over custody of their daughter; not only that, but many of the other characters from the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital will be forced to take sides. It could get ugly, and we’re hoping still that there could be something on the other side that has us hopeful. Maybe that’s just the optimist in us more than someone looking at this from the lens of reality.

Kevin McKidd (who plays Owen) also directed this episode, and no matter what happens in this episode, he makes it clear that there are some ramifications that will be felt. Speaking to TVLine about this episode as a whole, here’s what he had to say:

“After this episode, the aftermath plays out in a really interesting way in the lead-up to the finale. It gets pretty hairy in this episode. There is animosity. It’s not all fluffy and pretty and nice. There are really intense, complicated emotions flying around. But there’s a really beautiful payoff in the finale connected to this.”

It’s too early still to tell just what this payoff is, but our hope here is still that Callie and Arizona at least figure out an arrangement. It may be too much to ask that they get back together, so let’s just focus on baby steps for now, shall we?
