‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12 spoilers: Is another ‘disaster’ finale coming?

Grey's AnatomyGrey’s Anatomy” is known for many things: Strong performances, captivating drama, and finales that send much of the nation into a state of mourning and/or panic. It’s something that we’ve seen for many years; it doesn’t happen every season, but when it does it generates reactions like you wouldn’t believe.

Is that coming again at the end of season 12? Based on what Kelly McCreary told TVLine recently, that seems possible: “There’s definitely a potential disaster … There’s a lot of disaster potential, let’s put it that way.”

What does “disaster potential” mean? We see it as there could be a situation that teeters on a knife’s edge, and if its tilts in the wrong direction, it could send the entire cast into a state of upheaval. It’s always possible we could lose a character or two; if nothing else, it seems likely that the landscape will be different after the episode as opposed to before it.

We suppose that more of a challenge for this show is what sort of tragedy to do that hasn’t been shown already in a past episode, and also how to make it even remotely believable that some of these characters have the largest dark cloud possible floating over their heads. We really have not seen a whole lot quite like this in terms of someone like Meredith being doomed almost like “Groundhog Day” to bear witness to something terrible time and time again. The only difference is that here, it is a slightly-different terrible thing that takes place.
