‘American Idol’ series finale: Status of David Archuleta, Crystal Bowersox confirmed

American Idol -The series finale of “American Idol” is now a mere amount of hours away from happening, and that’s great for those of you feeling super-nostalgic about the end of things. Also, it’s great to really get a sense of everyone who will be attending … including David Archuleta.

The season 7 runner-up was one of the long-standing mysteries for us when it comes to the finale, at least until recently. Now, we know for certain that he is going to be stopping by … but not in musical form. Archuleta said on Twitter that he will be there for the opening, but isn’t planning on singing. This comes after Nigel Lythgoe (returning to executive-produce the finale) claimed that he originally wanted David to sing “Imagine,” easily his most-iconic song from his time on the show.

This is what Lythgoe had to say about getting everyone together, per Billboard:

“It was exceptionally tough because people are chosen for their personalities as well as their vocal ability and we had such a short time to put it together. I wanted to bring out the stars people remember, which includes someone like Sanjaya. And for the medleys by  genres, I wanted the best singers that I could get in those areas. So that is how we did it. Then lots of people had to drop out at the last minute. We lost one of our country kids, Josh Gracin through a family bereavement, and thank goodness Constantine Maroulis stepped in as a country boy. David Archuleta was unavailable and then he called up two days ago and said he could come and be in the opening.”

Unfortunately, the tweet below from Crystal Bowersox (one of our other favorite runner-ups) basically confirms that she won’t be there, even though her touring commitments already made it near impossible for her to attend in the first place. As for Adam Lambert, all signs point to him being in Toronto working on “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”; it’s a bummer he won’t be seemingly at the show, but he’s also been on this season already. We got a celebration of his work.
