‘American Idol’ series finale: Will Trent Harmon or La’Porsha Renae win season 15?
We know that there will be a lot of time (understandably) spent tonight discussing the “American Idol” series finale through the lens of the returning alumni and the overall legacy of the series, so we do think the timing is right to spend at least a few minutes discussing the actual results that are going to be coming down the pipeline. Trent Harmon and La’Porsha Renae are fighting to be the very last winner of the show, with one of them getting to work with Big Machine Records for some time moving forward on an album.
So who will win between the two? At the moment, we actually think it is a toss-up, and that’s not a cheap cop-out answer.
Celebrities / the media – When you think about things from this angle, La’Porsha has the support. She’s had a better overall season probably than Trent, given a number of breathtaking performances, and you really get the sense that she could be a great ambassador for the show as just the second female winner since season 6. Alumni like Kelly Clarkson are thoroughly behind her, and even some non-alumni superstars are in her corner.
Regular viewers – This is where we think the edge goes to Trent, who has really come on the past few weeks and been nothing short of outstanding. While La’Porsha has support, Trent comes from a mold that tends to do really well on this show. Just remember that David Cook, Kris Allen, Lee DeWyze, Scotty McCreery, Phillip Phillips, Caleb Johnson, and Nick Fradiani have all been recent winners of the show, and they share quite a few things in common with Trent in terms of his look and his feel. It’s especially interesting that this is the recent run of winners here given that before them, Taylor Hicks is the only champion you could say partially belongs in that same mold.
If we had to pick one right now, we’d say that Trent wins based on past voting history and that the only time that a woman has won in the past several years, it was up against another woman. Personally, our pick is La’Porsha based on the entire season.
