‘NCIS’ season 13 spoilers: Fornell’s return; another Tony mystery
When “NCIS” returns to CBS next week, we’re going to get a story that is in many ways DiNozzo-centric as Tony has to try and figure out how to stop some copycats from infiltrating the world of United States Senators. Since nobody wants to deal with identity theft, we certainly feel for him.
While we cannot guarantee that the episode beyond that, which is entitled “Return to Sender” and airing on April 19, is all about him, we do at least know that he will play a very integral role throughout at least one of the stories. For more on that, just take a look at the attached synopsis for what to expect:
“Gibbs and Senior FBI Agent T.C. Fornell (Joe Spano) unite after two British prisoners, including a former spy, escape and arrive stateside via a shipping container. Also, McGee is busy apartment hunting and determined to find out how DiNozzo purchased his lavish place.”
Is it at all possible that DiNozzo’s apartment of all things could play a role in his departure? We’re not so sure about that, but this story could at least provide some sort of closure for the Tony – McGee friendship, and be one of the last episodes in which you get to see them have so much friendly banter. At this point in the show’s run, we are more or less at a point where we have to start checking off various boxes. In many ways, almost anything could be the last time we see Tony do that particular thing on the series.

This episode seems similar to 2 previous ones where he was framed for murder.

If you can’t think of something new, recyle.

But the two previous Tony frame ups had serious undertones and gave Weatherly some juicy moments in which to show his skills as an actor. Based on what I’ve seen from the current ptb, I’m guessing what with the two fake Tonys all dressed like the original that this episode will be played for comedy. At least the parts involving Tony. If any moment has any drama or suspense it will probably be bestowed on Gibbs, McGee, or Ellie. I suppose it depends on who wrote and directed it as to just how clueless and useless they make Tony look.

I hope that the identity theft episode doesn’t make Tony look helpless and stupid while Gibbs or McGee handles the excitement and saves the day. I still keep wishing that Tony’s departure could feature one last hero Tony type situation but this probably won’t happen. We haven’t gotten to see hero Tony in many seasons but are treated to hero Gibbs nearly every week. I wish that the current ptb would be willing to suck it up just this once.

If he gets to do something heroic, then they probably have to kill him to balance it out. The story line is that Gibbs gets to be heroic and live. We will see.
