Ratings: ‘Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders’ has so-so start; ‘Nashville’ up for wedding episode

We’re not going to pretend like Wednesday was an active night in the ratings, mostly because it wasn’t. Therefore, we’re not going to waste too much time discussing the likes of “Survivor” (2.1 in the 18-49 demographic), “Rosewood” (0.9), or “Modern Family” (2.5), given that their numbers were so similar to ones that we’ve seen and heard about before.

Instead, let’s go ahead and dive in to the few major ratings highlights of the day.

The winners – We’re not going to proclaim that “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders” completely crushed its first episode with a 1.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic, mostly because that wouldn’t be close to the truth. However, at the same exact time this is still a fairly respectable start to the night. It marks a slight improvement from the series premiere of “Code Black” this fall (1.5), though to be fair this show may have had higher expectations because of it being a franchise. It kept most of the lead-in from “Criminal Minds” (1.9) on the night.

Meanwhile, “Nashville” (0.9) did improve by almost 10% for a big wedding episode. Whether or not that is enough to get it another season on the air, however, remains to be seen.

The losers – There’s no catastrophe here other than the continued failures of “Rosewood” without “Empire,” but we will mention that “The Middle” (1.7) dropped more than 10% despite not even airing against anything on either NBC or The CW that constituted new programming. Granted, it has already been renewed for another season and is therefore going nowhere. There’s nothing altogether substantial to worry about here.
