‘The Muppets’ season 2: Talking renewal odds for ABC comedy!

Tonight, the first season of “The Muppets” on ABC came to a conclusion that was in many ways satisfying for what the show could be. After all, how can you be anything other than very pleased about seeing Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog get together? The second half of the first season was much funnier than the first, and it also captured more of the heart and the spirit we’ve come to appreciate about these characters. Who knows what could’ve happened in the event the show was like this for the entirety of the first season?

Unfortunately, at the moment it doesn’t really look great for the show to return for a second season. The ratings started out great earlier this season, but they have since careened down a cliff following the difficult run in the fall. The story just didn’t feel right, and there’s no better testament to that than the behavior of some viewers watching the show.

the only glimmer of hope that we’d say the show has is if the new folks in charge over at ABC realize that there is some value and merit to giving this show another chance thanks to the positive ratings for the past few weeks. Is there a challenge of getting people to check the show back out? Sure, but with the right marketing and a streaming venue like Netflix or Amazon, it is possible that people will want to dive in and check this out.

In the end, we really need more network comedy that brings to the table what “The Muppets” does. We’ll see what happens in May.

Are you hoping to see “The Muppets” renewed?
