‘The Blacklist’ season 3, episode 17 review: Did Liz and Tom actually get married?
Going into Thursday night’s new episode of “The Blacklist,” we knew that there was going to be a lot of drama that played out. Despite all of the publicity surrounding Liz and Tom Keen getting married, we had a hard time thinking that they were going to get anything close to a romantic conclusion.
In the end, we definitely didn’t see a typical ceremony with vows, romantic gestures, or really anything else. Instead, we had a violent shootout after it was clear that Mr. Solomon, a familiar face from the Cabal with a mysterious new boss, was out to bring in Liz. Now that her other identity was out there, some ghosts from the past were there to try to do a little bit of cleanup duty. While we don’t trust Tom, we certainly felt for Liz having to run around and avoid gunfire, while both pregnant and also while wearing a wedding dress.
The good news for now is that Liz managed to emerge from the chapel with Tom, and in one piece. Yet, at the same time it’s clear that this story is far from over. They didn’t have their wedding, and now they face a dangerous future where something could be after them almost every turn.
Overall, we don’t know how you say this episode is anything but thrilled, with good moments for almost every person in the cast. There was even some humor when it comes to the Task Force and Tom, and it was nice to see Cooper at least get an invite to be the man officiating the ceremony. Episode grade: B+.

Love the Blacklist, but this was the worst episode I’ve ever seen. So done with the creepy Tom and Liz romance. Want her to get back to doing her actual job. Want the show to get back to its premise. This whole episode felt like fanfiction — clumsy writing, humor that didn’t land, misplaced priorities (“we think someone stole a nuke but let’s worry about that later! there’s a wedding to go to!”), a poorly staged gunfight (why didn’t Solomon bring a flash grenade if he didn’t want Liz harmed? Where were those laser scopes coming from (through the wood door)? The laser scopes meant Solomon’s men could *see* Liz, so why weren’t they shooting everywhere ELSE?) So much dumb. Very sick of them taking a witty, smart show and ruining it by catering to the bubbleheads who just want a romantic soap opera.

@ worldwide_webster: Spot on, excellent observations. Couldn’t agree more! One other thing…. Do you think Liz feels even remotely upset about how many people die either trying to protect her or just being in her mere presence (the innocent “church lady” last night) and, to a lesser extent the amount of FBI and law enforcement resources used on her behalf? Honestly, I can’t stand Liz, or Ressler for that matter. While the rest of the cast is great, I absolutely cringe when Megan Boone (Liz) and Diego Klattenhoff (Ressler) are on screen. While I used to love the show I now only watch with the fleeting hope that Liz and Ressler will soon get blown to smithereens by some miscreant on Reddington’s “blacklist” or the Cabal. Seriously, the best thing for our “fictional” national security would be if Liz went away and the FBI could use its limited resources on more important threats and NOT Lizzie or her cheesy wedding.

@ Nan – exactly right. Liz and Tom hurt each other and forgave each other, and have had each others’ backs ever since. Haters need to back off – hope they get married and that their relationship is a bridge between “The Blacklist” and the Tom spin-off. Awesome episode

What do you mean that we don’t trust Tom? Most viewers do except for the vocal fringe element who want Red and Liz to get together romantically. Stop jumping on their bandwagon. Great episode – looking forward to next week when the baby is born. Will they complete their vows? Why not? They certainly are both in the same boat now.

Please. I don’t want Red and Liz together at all but that doesn’t mean that this whole Tom and Liz thing isn’t heights of weird. Tom is very much responsible for the death of a fellow agent. The information he gave Berlin led to Meera being murdered and Cooper almost being murdered. I know the show and Tom fans have been trying to bury that incident below ground as if it never happened, but it did happen.

Eww…I didn’t know anyone wanted Red and Liz together. That is basically the only thing I can think of that would be ickier than Tom and Liz together.
