‘Elementary’ season 4, episode 14 preview: Is Sherlock’s mother coming into play?

Over the course of “Elementary” through four seasons, Sherlock’s parentage has really only been thoroughly discussed courtesy of his father, who we are still only getting to know this season thanks to John Noble’s arrival. He’s certainly a fascinating character, and it has been enjoyable seeing him interact with his son in some capacity.

Now that we’ve said all of this, there are some other important issues that need to be discussed, including the precise details regarding the story of Sherlock’s mother. This is something that can be teased a little bit further in the synopsis below:

“When Holmes’ investigation into the attempt on Morland’s life pushes their strained relationship to the breaking point, the identity of Sherlock’s mother is revealed. Also, when three gang members are murdered, Holmes and Watson are amazed when an elderly woman emerges as their prime suspect.”

We suppose that the case regarding the elderly woman will be a source of some comic relief, but at the same time, we also don’t exactly think that it will be what people are watching for and/or discussing. We find it great that the CBS show is going ahead and diving further into Sherlock’s backstory, and doing it sooner rather than later. We cannot pretend that the ratings for this series are anywhere close to great. We don’t know what the future holds, and we do see a move to Sunday nights coming in the relatively near future. It’s better to tie up as many questions and loose threads as possible before we get to that point.

Now, if only the show could find a way to get Moriarty back…
