‘Call the Midwife’ season 5, episode 5 preview: Dr. Turner’s latest troubles

Dr. Turner

We’ve got another new episode of “Call the Midwife” coming your way on the BBC Sunday night, and this one is in many ways continuing to cement the notion of Dr. Turner as one of the major players moving forward this season. We’ve already seen some of that as he and the midwives combat the presence of some medical advances on the show, but it will be continuing further as some research starts to come out concerning lung cancer.

During the era in which this show aired, there was not exactly too much known about the dangers of smoking, and some of the trouble that it could ultimately cause you over time. Unfortunately, this is not wisdom that Turner was able to impart to some of his patients, or even accept himself. It’s something that he is having to learn for himself, and he will face that at some point over the coming episode.

As for what else we’re going to see over the course of the next hour, get ready for a storyline tied more to Fred than many others we’ve seen so far this season. He was a key component near the end of season 4, but has been a little more quiet so far this year.

Also, of course there will be another patient-of-the-week story that we are going to get a chance to experience. That’s something that is a little hard to tease in the setup, though, and we should have some further insight into that after it airs on Sunday.
