‘The Amazing Race 28’ premiere video: A twist on the first flight out

Race -If you look back at some past seasons of “The Amazing Race,” one thing has been very similar: Teams all start out in one city (typically Los Angeles or New York), and then have to make it to the airport in order to get to their first destination.

However, for this new season premiering Friday with social-media stars at the center of it, the CBS series is trying some rather interesting new twists and turns. For example, it’s now a race with all of the teams converging at the same place in Mexico City from wherever they are from. It’s a chance to see people legitimately start from square one to take part in the race, and we like that it gives the show at least a little bit more of a broader feel.

With that being said, we wonder if the show would’ve been so willing to do this had there been a wider cross-section of teams, given that you have quite a few people within the cast this time all hailing from the Los Angeles area. For them, it’s not exactly that different than any other season of the show.

Ultimately, we like the idea, and for the most part it’s rather cool that we are seeing teams have something different to do in season 28. If this doesn’t work this season, maybe try it one more time for a batch of episodes with a normal cast front and center, just to get a better sense of what it’s like.
