‘Arrow’ season 4, episode 13 video: Can Oliver keep Malcolm from getting killed?

Oliver -

Yes, we know that Oliver Queen can be a complete killing machine if it comes to it, and it’s for that reason that we’re glad that he tries to do something different on “Arrow.” It’s part of what makes the show complex. Also, we really don’t want Malcolm Merlyn to die.

At the end of this past episode, Nyssa al Ghul made what was a strong “deal” with Oliver: If he removes Merlyn from the equation at the League, she will do everything in her power in order to ensure that Thea is spared from her current, rather-grisly fate. That does not exactly have us feeling particularly hopeful for her future, mostly since Malcolm has shown himself to be a really tough guy to kill over time.

In the end, the solution that Oliver has come up with here is fairly intuitive: He convinces Malcolm to give up control of the League of Assassins to Nyssa, and in return she helps out Thea. He knows that control of the League is what she wants more than anything else, and that killing Thea’s father is probably not a great way to endear himself to her as someone looking out for her best interests.

It’s probably easier said than done getting Malcolm to relinquish control, but as we know with him, negotiation is very much the name of the game. With that in mind, there may be a way to convince him to do something, provided that Oliver gives him something in return. We just have to figure out what that something could be.
