2016 Super Bowl Commercials: Coca-Cola hires Ant-Man, The Hulk for new ad

Super Bowl -Coca-Cola has a history of being very coy about many of their Super Bowl Commercials, and ultimately, this time around is no exception. They chose not to release the ad early, but that made it all the more fun when it debuted during the big game!

The idea – Coca-Cola used this ad as an opportunity to advertise their new Coke Mini cans, and also showcase a battle between Ant-Man and the Hulk. It was gorgeous, effective, and every bit as cool as you expect from a Coke ad.

What worked – It’s a classic brand meets Marvel! What better combination of two powers could you want? We also love that since we are talking about Coke Mini here, you bring on one of Marvel’s smallest heroes (at least when he is using his power). It’s action-packed from start to finish, and it almost felt like a movie trailer for a second.

What didn’t – You can argue that usually Coke comes up with their own creations for their ads rather than licensing others. Typically, there is a little more creativity there, since they know that their brand is so strong, they don’t need outside influences to sell their product.

Grade – B+. We will say that in terms of being charming / memorable, this isn’t our favorite Coke ad we’ve seen over the years. However, at the same exact time these are great characters, and the ad is extremely effective at doing exactly what it wants to do: Announce a new product skew for the company, and give you something eye-popping during the big game.
