‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7 spoilers: Are Stefan, Damon in danger from Rayna?

Is the vampire huntress Rayna the person responsible for attacking Damon and Stefan Salvatore in some of the flash-forwards we’ve seen on “The Vampire Diaries” so far this season? It’s not confirmed as of yet, but it does certainly seem as though she will be bringing terror to their lives sooner rather than later.

As for why specifically she is after them, let’s just say that it has to do with the Phoenix Stone, and the sword that both of them were stabbed with. Speaking to TV Guide, executive producer Caroline Dries offered up the following teaser as to what is going on here:

“As we saw Stefan and Damon both get stabbed by that sword, we start to understand what the heck is going on with that mythology. It’s all together … Once we understand the rules of that sword and who owns it and who’s compelled by the sword, essentially, to kill vampires, it’ll all make sense.”

Will it make enough sense to convince us that there was a good reason for Damon to effectively go into hibernation? That’s what we have to wait and see. We’re sure that part of his motive for now is tied to his desire to escape from the world until Elena returns, but having Rayna around may be that added incentive to think that it’s just not worth it for him to be roaming about Mystic Falls. He certainly doesn’t want to die, and she could be relentless in her pursuit. Granted, if she finds him, he probably wishes that he found a much better hiding spot…
