NBC’s ‘The Voice’ results: Did #VoiceSave help Braiden Sunshine, Korin Bukowski?

VoiceTonight on “The Voice,” we had an opportunity to witness ten become nine as the remaining contestants continued to battle it out for vocal supremacy … or at least two of them did.

Going into the show, our easy prediction was that we were going to see a battle for survival between Braiden Sunshine and Korin Bukowski, and for obvious reasons when you look at the metrics. In the case of Korin, you’ve got someone who has been in the bottom two multiple times and is here mostly on the grace of the #VoiceSave. As for Braiden, he was not even charting in the top 100 on iTunes at times. He has fans, but they have to buy his music!

As it turned out, this is where the chips fell, and by the end of the show we knew that Gwen Stefani was going to lose one of her two acts. It’s tough for her, but she does at least have favorite Jeffery Austin on her team, as well. That’s some stability for her.

Despite Korin being in the bottom two before and coming through, the ending here felt inevitable. Braiden has never been a huge success story on iTunes; instead, he’s relied on the fan vote to stick around week after week. This happened here, and he is now entering the top 9. The one thing that we’d say makes this whole results format this season a little ridiculous is that it seems obvious that the final four will be Jeffery Austin, Jordan Smith, Amy Vachal, and somebody from Team Blake. Does anything else matter?
