Ratings: ‘Superstore’ solid in premiere; ‘Supergirl,’ ‘Gotham,’ ‘Minority Report’ finale up (11/30/2015)

Gotham -What Monday night’s TV lineup did more so than any other is present us with further proof of one simple truth: The ratings the week of Thanksgiving are always lower than usual. There isn’t much in the way of bad news to report here, that is unless you are one of those cynical people who actually roots for a show to fail.

The good news – “Superstore,” the new comedy starring America Ferrera, ended up drawing a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic for a special “sneak preview” episode. Meanwhile, the second half-hour scored a 1.9. These ratings are not out of the park by any means, but when you look at the moribund state of NBC comedy it is a significant shot in the arm. (We’re still bent out of shape about their treatment of “Undateable Live.”)

Meanwhile, many other shows posted at least decent gains versus the week before, including “Supergirl” (1.6), “Gotham” (1.6), and even the season / likely series finale of “Minority Report” (0.7). Yes, “Minority Report” actually improved to a 0.7. That’s why the show is getting canceled.

The losers – For whatever reason, America is just not interested in a take on “The Great British Bake-Off,” even though the series is a runaway smash hit across the pond. ABC tried last night with “The Great Holiday Baking Show,” and it scored just a 1.2 rating. While this is actually better than the series average for “Castle” so far, that’s a show eight years into its run. This is the premiere of a new, disposable reality series. Not a catastrophe, but hardly a winner, either.

Ultimately, though, the fact that there are no enormous disasters is something for the networks to hang their hat on as we get into the final month of 2015.
