‘Once Upon a Time’ season 5 spoilers: Colin O’Donoghue on playing Dark Hook

We’ve come to know the Dark Swan very well over the course of “Once Upon a Time,” so going into Sunday night, it will be interesting to see just how Dark Hook operates within this world. This character started off on the show as a villain, and it was only due to Emma that he started to become heroic.

So what happens now that he realizes that he has such a great force of evil within him? Well, let’s just say that Hook will go back to some of his old ways. Speaking in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Colin O’Donoghue had the following message to pass along:

“He’s kind of similar to the original Hook, but amplified by the present. What we have to remember is that Hook embraced the Darkness before, whereas Emma has always tried to fight it. Even as her Dark One, she still comes from a place of hope as the Savior. That’s where her Dark One is starting from, whereas Hook knows that he can’t resist that side of things, so he fully embraces it and goes into himself.”

Are we worried about what Hook will do? Certainly, but we’re going to continue to hope that he learned something from what he’s been through over the past couple of seasons. He never really found happiness or got anything he wanted as a full-fledged villain, so why continue to go down this road? Hopefully, this allows him to find a new direction in battling the darkness.
