‘Doctor Who’ season 9: Peter Capaldi looks ahead, talks Maisie Williams ‘rumor’

MaisieThe ninth season of “Doctor Who” is getting close to the end, and given the recent headlines surrounding the departure of Jenna Coleman, we can only imagine that there are going to be a series of rumors in succession surrounding who could be the next major Companion on the show.

So could it really be Maisie Williams? Here’s your answer: Absolutely not. She doesn’t even need to comment on it much for us to know. The “Game of Thrones” filming schedule precludes it, and we figure that there is at least one or two more seasons even after the upcoming sixth one. She already has a tremendous job, and this is the sort of side gig that is probably very enjoyable in its own right.

So while Maisie is incredibly unlikely to ever be a Companion, the star of the show is at least saying a lot of nice things about her. Speaking about the rumors on “The Graham Norton Show” recently, Peter Capaldi had the following message to share:

“I can’t answer questions like that but Maisie is fantastic. She’s been in Game of Thrones since she was 12 and is very assured.

“I was doing a shot with her and when they called ‘action’ she slightly pulled me back. When I asked her what she was doing she said, ‘You were in my light.’ But she is lovely.”

Our real hope for Maisie is that she does get to do an episode every year or two, and can be added to the wide arsenal of great recurring characters on “Doctor Who.”
