Cable ratings: ‘The Walking Dead’ up with Glenn reveal; ‘Into the Badlands’ down

Glenn -

Even though “The Walking Dead” was somewhere between frustrating and infuriating with how they chose to handle the whole Glenn saga over the past few weeks, there is one thing that we can say now without question: AMC definitely seemed to appreciate the impact that the story had on its ratings.

For its most-recent episode, which finally revealed that Steven Yeun’s character is in fact still alive, the show drew in total a 6.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Not only is that enormous, but it is up from the 6.5 that the prior week’s installment received. For those wanting further details, it was up slightly on the season average of 6.6, but also down from the equivalent episode last year (which drew a 7.0). As a whole, this season is down almost 0.8 in comparison to season 5, but that average may be deceptive right now since finales / premieres score well and there are still three of them to go.

Meanwhile and as expected, “Into the Badlands” did sink in its second episode. Despite AMC’s best efforts to beg viewers to watch, the martial-arts series scored a 2.3, down significant from the 3.1 it premiered with. Still, we think the show is coming back so long as there is a desire to make more and it brings in more than a 1.0 the rest of the season. We do think that the show is rather entertaining and has a whole lot going for it, but the fact that it is such an obvious target of derision hurts it just because of when it airs.
