‘Doctor Who’ season 9, episode 10 reaction: Could Jenna Coleman still return?

Doctor Who

Are we truly done with Jenna Coleman on “Doctor Who“? (Warning: Spoilers below from this weekend’s new episode!)

In the closing minutes of this weekend’s new episode entitled “Face the Raven,” we witnessed Clara Oswald sacrifice herself and finally stop running, offering herself up to the Raven as a way to secure the safety of everyone else. This was a particularly sad moment, and one that also appears to be sad.

Yet, is it possible that Coleman could somehow return? We imagine that she could turn up at some point down the line for a special or some bit of fan service, but it looks as though she will no longer have a role in the main story. Speaking on “The Graham Norton Show” prior to “Face the Raven” even airing, star Peter Capaldi made his thoughts on the matter rather clear:

“It’s the end of the line for Clara Oswald played by Jenna Coleman, who’s been my companion for the last two years. It’s the end of her story. I don’t want to go into the details of it, but it’s sad … Sometimes people can’t come back. Sometimes things happen that they can’t come back from.”

As for the search for a new Companion, all we know is that there will be someone announced probably in the months ahead. There’s no concrete news to report, though, other than that Alex Kingston will reprise River Song in the Christmas Special … which most of you probably know already. She is in some ways the Companion while we wait for the new one.
