‘The Flash’ season 2, episode 7 review: Gorilla City draws near

FlashGoing into Tuesday night’s new episode of “The Flash,” we never imagined that we’d have as much sympathy for an evil telepathic gorilla as we did … mostly because we wonder whether or not things could have been different had he been treated a different way in the early stages of his life.

Instead, he was raised to hate “The Flash,” and it took Caitlin protecting him, offering up her trust to give him a better life, in order to ensure that he didn’t die. She did that, but really it was all a ploy to open up a breach to transfer him somewhere else. There were no guarantees that Grodd would end up where he did … but where he did is very bad news for Barry and company. It now seems like he has arrived at Gorilla City, which is a place comic fans know very well, and a place where he could become so much more powerful.

Can we just say for a minute how much we love the show for its guts? We never envisioned anyone would ever put Gorilla City on TV just because it’s not the easiest concept in the world for some to grasp onto. They are, luckily, holding nothing back in here.

Elsewhere in this episode, it was nice to have some more Henry Allen, though we do still think he’s a strong contender to also be Zoom (or at least the Earth-2 version of him) when you look at some of the evidence. Meanwhile, Cisco realized the true destiny of his new date Kendra Saunders, and Barry is starting to realize that lying to Patty Spivot about who he is will be getting old quickly. Still, you have to understand why he’s doing it right now: He barely knows her!

We do wish that this episode wasn’t such a huge diversion from the Zoom story, it was still Grodd. Therefore, it was awesome enough to have us excited for more. Grade: B.
