‘Shark Tank’ review: Windcatcher, Rent Like a Champion, STEM Center, and HotShot Coffee
Tonight, “Shark Tank” is bringing you a variety of things that can be considered new. You’ve got a new alternative for inflatable gear, a center / line of products designed to sculpt young minds, an innovation for the American coffee industry, and then what we like to think of as Airbnb for colleges.
Will any of them get an investment from the Sharks, which include a certain guest by the name of Chris Sacca? This is something that we’re going to dive into and explain in our latest episode review. Be sure to refresh for more news as the episode progresses!
Rent Like a Champion – Is this innovative enough to get a deal? The funny thing here is that on paper, we feel like we were every bit as skeptical about this as the Sharks were in the Tank. Then, we heard the rest of the pitch out. There’s some real gold in here! They’ve made a ton of money in very specific markets, and within just a few minutes we realized how brilliant Sacca is at this. He identified that with their sales and their asking price, he can blow them up quickly … or at least get them acquired by Airbnb down the line.
In the end, Mark and Chris went in for the asking price.
HotShot Coffee – Will this change the coffee business? Probably not. The main issue here is that this is a hot coffee in an industry that really does not need one. While we think some people out there would drink it, it’s a little different than getting just a little bit a shelf space. You need to bring in a completely different kind of container, and that makes this a huge burden for any product that is trying this out. That why we see no deal here.
Windcatcher – Is this product great, or is it just the technology? We’re not really sure, but we don’t think that he was that out of his mind in saying that this company, with its attached patent, can be worth millions in licensing deals in other matters. Lori Greiner was totally the right choice. With all the patents that she owns, she is a master at taking products and ideas and turning them into tons of money. We just really liked the guy behind this to, given that he was such a unique, quirky character.
STEM Center – Can they make teaching science, math, technology, and engineering interesting to young minds? We love the idea, even if it does seem rather expensive to get young kids involved in physical location. They did get a deal with Lori, which really makes this a rather great episode for her. We also think it came about at the right price. We’re really not sure that this will successfully expand since you need so many good people involved, but we do think it will be a worthwhile investment to help get children involved in this all-important educational space.
