NBC’s ‘The Voice’ review: Siahna Im, Ivonne Acero, Chris Crump take on the battles

VoiceThe Battles continued on Tuesday night’s new episode of “The Voice,” and what we saw during this episode was ultimately a case of a lot of filler for a little bit of singing. These one-hour shows feel especially like a drag for some reason; maybe it is because you do actually get to see more artists in the two-hour episodes, even if the rate in which they appear is actually the case.

At least some of the performances were entertaining, right? They help to at least have something fun to write about in our least-favorite part of the competition.

Keith Semple defeats Manny Cabo – We actually had Manny pegged to win this earlier in the day! We find ourselves really surprised about a pair of different things here. First, you have the fact that Manny lost, and then also that it came without a steal. His rock voice is so good and so unique that it feels like a mistake. Also, can we claim bias to any contestant over 40 on this show? We feel like that happens even with some of the blind auditions these days.

Chris Crump defeats Krista Hughes – Chris was really great, so we don’t want to throw anything at Blake Shelton in anger over this. With that said, didn’t Krista give the best Blind Audition out of anyone on his team? Maybe her performance this time was a little bit of a step down from that, but we still feel like it was worthy of a steal. Maybe we’re just not batting anywhere close to a thousand with this stage of the competition this year.

Montage – Madi Davis, Kota Wade, and Jeffrey Austin all advanced. Boo to NBC for montaging people that they could have easily included without all the filler.

Siahna Im defeats Ivonne Acero – This is the battle with the steal you expected! Granted, this was inevitable the moment that you first realized that there were no steals in this episode before this one. That’s another complaint with this round: Far too predictable. Pharrell ended up losing one of them after a great, powerful performance (all of the Battles shown to us this time around were rather good), and Ivonne found her way over to Team Blake. We have a feeling that she could shine there amidst a sea of country artists.
