‘The Flash’ season 2 spoilers: One key difference between Jay Garrick, Barry Allen

The Flash -At the tail end of the season 2 premiere of “The Flash” Tuesday night, we got our first introduction to the character of Jay Garrick, as he arrived to warn Barry Allen that a major threat in Zoom is coming to Central City, and should be feared by both him and everyone. He wants nothing more than Barry’s destruction, and unlike the Reverse Flash, there does not seem to be any gray area with this.

So what makes Jay an interesting character and mentor? He’s benevolent in nature for one, but he’s also someone who has went about fighting crime a different way. Therefore, it’s possible that he could actually still learn something from Barry, as well. In speaking on this subject to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg had the following to say:

“Jay is a Flash without a mask … On Earth-Two, everyone knew who he was. He didn’t have friends and family. He did it all on his own. Barry’s able to give him the friends and family and emotional support that Jay lost along the way on his path to being a hero. It’s a really nice relationship and it’s something we don’t have on the show.”

We are not entirely sure for now just how long Jay will stick around for, but he will be able to help teach Barry a few new tricks, and also prepare him for some of the storm to come. Given that the show has not publicly announced yet who is playing the character, it could be some time before we actually see him in the flesh.
