‘The Originals’ season 3 spoilers: Daniel Gillies on Elijah’s (immediate) future with Hayley

Originals -The premiere of “The Originals” is airing on The CW Thursday night, and thanks to all of the information that we have seen to date, we already know with great certainty that things are not exactly starting out great for the Hayley – Elijah relationship. This is what happens when one of them has been cursed with being a wolf and spending their time in that form.

Luckily, Hayley can at least rest assured that he will do everything that he can to protect her, including from potential wolf-hunters who will surface early on this season. As Daniel Gillies tells TVLine in previewing the story ahead, he will try his best to do what he can to help, and do so without fully crossing over into the same darkness that his brother Klaus knows so well:

“He’ll do what he has to do, but I don’t know if he’s necessarily dark about it … One thing I admire about Elijah is that, if nothing else, he’s economical. He sees occasional violence as a necessary evil, or even just another day at the office. And when it comes to the reunification of his family, I don’t think any measure is too dark. By human standards, he’ll certainly do some malevolent-looking things, but by 1,000-year-old vampire standards, it’ll be just like a trip to Starbucks for tea.”

One thing that will constantly keep these two characters in peril is of course Klaus, and that relationship between Elijah and his brother will remain at the forefront of this season. They don’t always coexist in the same world well, but they may have to for a few specific reasons moving forward.
