‘Homeland’ season 5, episode 2 preview: Can Carrie, Saul start to function better?
The “Homeland” premiere on Sunday night started as a little bit of a slow burn, but as we started to get near the end of the hour, there were a number of key revelations that came to light. For one, Carrie did have a role in what happened with Saul potentially getting the Director job back with the CIA. While it was not clear if her lack of quality testimony is the main reason why he didn’t get that job, it was at least a factor and these two are not on good terms at all.
Also, we have met Quinn once again, but after two years in the Middle East this is a man even more haunted by his actions than the one we saw in season 4. That cannot mean good things for the relationship between him and Carrie, which is already on the rocks thanks to her having a new relationship.
It is crazy to watch the promo below for next week’s episode and remember that at the start of the premiere, Carrie was actually in a fairly healthy place in her life. She had a good job, and was not throwing herself into mortal danger. Now, she’s throwing herself back more into international affairs and conflicts, and it is going to take a toll on herself and her family. After all, how could it not? This is serious business, and the sort where there is danger around almost every turn.
We’re interested to see if this season can continue the momentum that has been already established. So far, we would say that they are doing a rather great job.
