‘Beauty and the Beast’ season 3 finale review: Was Liam stopped, and did a wedding happen?

The latest -

While the season 3 finale of “Beauty and the Beast” first aired in Canada a little more than a week ago, it just came on The CW Thursday night and brought with it a pretty wide array of closure. It’s interesting: Even though the show was given a season 4 renewal pretty early on, it still happened more than likely after this season was all written out, and the show had an ending that could have served pretty well as a series finale.

After all, didn’t Vincent and Catherine get most of everything that they’ve asked for? The two are now married, and can finally start to plan more for their future rather than just look over their shoulder. Liam seems to be dispatched, and even though they did have to try a risky plan of outing Vincent as a beast, it worked out since thanks to their cooperation, the true bad guy of the moment was taken down.

For the most part, we feel like this was the finale that many fans wanted … though the lack of a huge cliffhanger in the closing seconds does not give us as much to talk about here. We do think that there are still openings for some big twists for the supporting cast moving into the future. For example, it’d be nice to see what the next new challenge for Tess and JT happens to be, just like it would be fun to see something new come in Heather’s direction. While we like the character, we feel like by and large, she didn’t get enough good stuff for her to do separate from wedding-planning and being worried about our leads.

Even without a cliffhanger, the series itself leaves enough of an open door for the future for us to be satisfied. We know that there are still threats out there in the world, and if there were supernatural creatures more than a century ago, many more could have popped in since that time. The writers have a clean slate to work with, and that is exciting. Episode Grade: B+.
