‘True Detective’ season 3: Talking those Nina Dobrev ‘rumors’
We’re going to try to bring you periodic updates on all things “True Detective” throughout the coming weeks … even if some of the rumors are so ridiculous that they have us shaking our heads – which is precisely what we are bringing you today.
According to HollywoodLife, former “Vampire Diaries” star Nina Dobrev is interested in having a role on the show … which is somehow spun like it is this big, surprising thing. While we do wonder if a few Hollywood movie stars are scared off from doing the show after a subpar season 2, we feel like almost anyone else would still want to be a part of this series after the incredible success of season 1. So is it really a surprise that Dobrev would want to join the line up of celebrities that want a role on this show?
Here is what the aforementioned publication’s “source” had to say about this:
“One of the people who would love to get her hands on a role in True Detective for season three is Nina Dobrev … She has told her people to start talking to the right people and to get her into those meetings. She knows she has time since season two has just ended, but she wants to be first in line for when decisions are to be made.”
The only thing in this statement that we can confirm to be true is that Dobrev and anyone else interested in a role does have time. HBO has said absolutely nothing about a third season to date, and while we assume it is going to happen, creator Nic Pizzolatto may take a break before figuring out what sort of story he wants to tell. There’s no guarantee that there will even be a role that Dobrev will be right for in the first place.
Ultimately, think of this rumor about Dobrev as a source blowing smoke. The show would probably be happy to have her in some capacity, but the same could be said about many other performers. Speculating on a cast before knowing the storyline is a major waste of time.
