‘Major Crimes’ season 4 gets extended run

Major Crimes -

We have to say that the following news is something that we certainly did not see coming. Just a matter of months ago, it was announced pretty definitively that “Major Crimes” season 4 was going to run for 18 episodes. While this is an episode less than the 19 that have been previously ordered, there’s no real reason for anyone to be too bummed about this. After all, this is a lot of episodes still for a show that is on cable.

Now, we are learning that the TNT drama is getting an extension that makes its episode order even longer than a whole lot of broadcast series. According a report from TVLine, the fourth season of the show is getting five extra episodes, and it will now run for a whopping 23.

Is this a good thing or a bad thing in the long-term? We’re not entirely sure. You can make the argument that adding these episodes is a way to wrap up the story rather than ordering another season, given that there is no word yet on if the series will get another batch of episodes beyond this.

As of right now, though, we’re cautiously optimistic that the network will order another season, and this extension is just a way of the network getting more of something they like. While it is not a powerhouse in the 18-49 demographic, is does still draw a ton of total viewers for cable and these are people who would be very angry to see it go.
