‘Arrow’ season 4 spoilers: David Ramsey’s Diggle will have his own code name

DiggleFor all of you John Diggle fans out there, know this: “Arrow” is not about to give the man the moniker of a superhero already out there in the DC universe. He’s not the Green Lantern, he’s not the Guardian, and he’s not any other person that we may have speculated over the years. He’s Diggle.

Eventually, it turns out that there is going to be some sort of alter ego given to the character, but as executive producer Marc Guggenheim tells Green Arrow TV in a new interview, this is not going to be a situation where they just start calling him it for the heck of it:

“We’ve always said Diggle’s comic book trajectory is Diggle. DC Comics has put John Diggle in the comics. We’re going to give him a code name out of practicality. I can’t tell you when it’s going to happen, because every time I write it, I end up taking it out, because it feels forced. I need to find the right moment for it. But we have the code name, DC’s approved it… but it’s unique to Diggle, and that’s what I like about it.”

While we know that there are comic-book fans out there who would love to see Diggle assume some sort of already-established name, we feel like there is no better compliment to the character and to David Ramsey’s work than to have him just remain Diggle, and for his role on the show to influence the comics in their own way. He has become one of the most-beloved characters on “Arrow,” and in a very short amount of time.
