‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 9 spoilers: Leonard’s mysterious ‘other woman’ cast
At the end of “The Big Bang Theory” season 8, the show decided to do something controversial in revealing that while Leonard was aboard the research ship a little while back, he ended up cheating on Penny. While it was only a one-time occasion, cheating is still cheating … and it could derail the wedding that the two were driving to Las Vegas to have.
Well, in another controversial decision, the show has now cast this “other woman” for a role. According to TVLine, Melissa Tang (who has appeared on another Chuck Lorre show in “Mom”) is set to guest-star in the role of Mandy, and will appear in the second episode of the season.
Ultimately, we have to admit that we are somewhat surprised to learn that the show has gone in this particular direction with this character … not so much the cheating part of it, but having the other woman actually appear on the show. It felt almost as effective that she was just some ominous presence that neither Penny nor Leonard would want to see again. It’s just hard to imagine her showing up in a way that does almost anyone any good. Also, it’s hard to think of the story being that funny.
Still, Tang is talented, and this will definitely be a challenging part since most fans are going to be against Many from the moment she appears.
The new season premieres on Monday, September 21, and early indications are that you are going to figure out almost right away just what happened at the wedding … or if there even was a wedding.

Last year, the show was highly critisized for playing it safe. While, I am surprised by this move, I applaud the show for not playing it safe and dropping the storyline, like it sometimes does. How much comedy will be had from this story is TBD. I am 100 percent sure that Sheldon and Amy are end game. In addition, I am pretty sure Lenny is is end game too. I would be surprised if Mandy became a recurring character for the rest if the season or series.

Yea, it’s most likely a one-time gig. Who knows? Maybe it’ll be surprising good.

I’m happy that the show isn’t playing it safe too, Rachel, but this feels like another way to break them up and there’s been so much of that over the years. they can find another way to add some drama and tension without it being another woman I feel. Still, it’ll be interesting to watch!
