‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7 spoilers: How Bonnie, Damon could bond movie forward

The start of “The Vampire Diaries” season 7 is going to be a difficult one for several characters, but of course at the top of that list is none other than Damon Salvatore. This is a guy who has clearly gone through a heck of a lot already in his century-plus life, and now he has to add losing Elena to that list. Sure, the good news here is that Elena is probably not gone forever, but at the same exact time the reality still is that she is not coming back until Bonnie goes.

Therefore, it is somewhat ironic that Bonnie and Damon could be spending so much time together, as he takes to drinking as one of the ways to cope with the fact that this great love of his is now gone. In explaining more of what this Bonnie / Damon relationship is like, executive producer Julie Plec said the following to TVLine:

“Bonnie has sort of taken it upon herself to be the uninvited chaperone, which is funny because she and Damon have so much unspoken between them — the guilt, the resentments, the gratitude, there’s a list of things they’re dealing with. Watching them air it out together is actually really nice. We’ll continue to watch their friendship build, because they really do owe each other a lot. They’re going to go through this whole thing together, which is a fun dynamic we’re exploring.”

To think, it was only two years ago when Damon and Bonnie’s relationship wasn’t anything close to this. Seeing the evolution here is one of the great things about watching this series play out right now. They have a really fun, in-depth friendship now, and Bonnie challenges him in a way that few others do.
