‘Madam Secretary’ season 2 spoilers: Morgan Freeman to guest-star, direct

Morgan Freeman is one of the executive producers on CBS’ “Madam Secretary,” and he has now deciding to lend himself to the series in some other capacities, as well.

You can see below the official synopsis for the upcoming October 4 premiere of the series, and while there are some key problems ahead for Elizabeth and a major political crises, we know what is going to stand out here is the part about the Oscar-winning actor actually appearing on the show:

“In the season premiere, the President’s plane is declared missing and Elizabeth is thrust into a situation of power she never imagined possible. Also, Henry butts heads with his new Defense Intelligence Agency handler, Jane Fellows, when he’s asked to recruit one of his Russian students for the NSA. Academy Award winner and Madam Secretary EP Morgan Freeman guest stars and directs the season premiere episode. Jill Hennessy joins the cast in a recurring role as Jane Fellows, Henry’s new D.I.A. handler.”

Will Freeman bring in more attention to the series? We certainly believe that this is the plan. This is a show with a faithful upscale audience, but the problem is that many of them are not in the key demographics for advertisers. While CBS does tend to skew old, it also needs to try to up their game from time to time. This show in particular saw a shortage of headlines during the first season. This is a way to change that, and it is also very impressive that a man of Freeman’s caliber is on board.
