ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 8 spoilers: Future revealed for Stana Katic’s Beckett
Apparently, the “Castle” producers are not a fan of making fans wait forever to learn a thing or two about Kate Beckett’s future. Maybe they felt as though the news would leak before the September 21 premiere, and they wanted to get out in front of it.
So with that in mind, may we introduce you to Captain Beckett? While at the TCA summer press tour party Tuesday, executive producer Alexi Hawley confirmed to TVLine that they are moving Stana Katic’s character to the top position at the precinct, which is a move that will add another jolt and some more variety to the show:
“At the end of the day, we came into this season wanting to shake things up … The show has been doing a great job with what’s its been doing, but now we’ve been given an opportunity to really sort of add some energy into it”
At the end of the day we imagine this means less time for Castle and Beckett working directly together, but that does not mean that they will be splitting up or anything else. To think that they need work to have a functional relationship is not doing the characters justice.
Judging from this comment from Hawley to the aforementioned publication, it definitely seems as though there is still some great Castle / Beckett storytelling ahead:
“The important thing to say about [Rick and Kate] is that the show has always been and will always be about their love affair … But we’re looking to add some drama to it, some spark to it. We’re going to have fun. It’s going to be emotional at times, it will be romantic…. It will be everything.”

Less Castle and Beckett?? Less watching the show. I’ve had a bellyful of this sort of crap!

Not really surprised. Depends what they do with it. If it puts Fillion and Katic working together on-screen as much or more than in previous seasons then it will be good. If not, then it will be bad. If it allows Beckett and Castle to delve into the dirty world of politics and prosecution behind the crimes, a la The Good Wife. That’s good. If Beckett continues to be a hands on leader with her detectives in the field like Major Crimes. That’s good, too. I see lots of positive possibilities.
If the showrunners want to make Castle more of an ensemble to free up more time for Katic and Fillion, I get it, but it will be tricky. Better have some spectacular COTWs.
