‘UnREAL’ season 2 spoilers: Could the show flip ‘Everlasting’ with male contestants?
Given that the first season of “UnREAL” has taken on behind-the-scenes issues with “The Bachelor,” is it possible that season 2 could take on “The Bachelorette”? It is certainly understandable that this question would be asked. This would enable the show to share a different perspective on some things, appeal to Lifetime’s largely-female demographic, and also put in the starring role on the show (if they wanted, anyway) a contestant from this season like an Anna or a Grace, depending on what happens in the final two.
At the moment, though, it does not seem like anything for a second season of “UnREAL” is set in stone, based on what executive producer Marti Noxon said to TVLine in previewing what lies ahead:
“We’ve been playing around with a bunch of ideas … I’m kind of attracted to doing the flip and having a bunch of guys in the house, because I just think it would be such a different dynamic and [we would] be able to comment on how different men and women are in that situation. Sarah [Gertrude Shapiro], who worked onThe Bachelor, told me that it was so much harder to get good drama out of the dudes because they’d just be like, ‘We’re bro-ing.’ ‘We’re hanging in the hot tub.’ ‘I really respect that guy.’ They turn into, like, a football team.”
Obviously, trying to create great drama out of this situation would be tough, and there are therefore other ideas: A spin-off revolving around something like “Royal Love,” a documentary on Faith’s life, or maybe just bringing in a new guy and doing this all over again. Some of it probably depends on what happens in the finale, but it is hard to see the show drifting far from the original reality TV premise.
