‘Doctor Who’ season 9 spoilers: Maisie Williams not playing character from Doctor’s past

MaisieJust in case you were running through your head for some possible conspiracy theories as to Maisie Williams’ upcoming part on “Doctor Who” season 9, we come to you today bearing some very specific news on who she is not playing: Someone from the Doctor’s past. This is a completely-new character, but someone who will hopefully be great for the “Game of Thrones” star’s many fans. At the moment, she may be the most-anticipated guest star of the upcoming season.

Show executive producer Steven Moffat was present for the upcoming Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour on Friday, and he commented on Williams’ role with the following message:

“Once you see what she’s up to on the show, you’ll appreciate what a clever idea it was … It’s a significant role [that she plays]. We’re not just getting star value and throwing it away. It’s a great part, and she’s terrific in it.”

The ninth season of the series will premiere on BBC One / BBC America in September, and early teases that we’ve received from Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman suggest that we are going to be seeing a more uninhibited version of the Doctor and Clara than we’ve received in the past. They’ve started to get into more of a groove, and they could be bolder with some of their missions into space. Also, be ready for more two-part episodes as a way to shake up the format ever so slightly. The series is very much intent on finding some new ways to keep you guessing that they have not before.
